Daycare

What is pet daycare?

Daycare for pets is a rapidly emerging service developed for busy pet owners.  It provides owners with a fun place to take their pets while they work or run errands.  Your pet is dropped off each morning as you start your busy day and picked up each evening on your way home.
While at daycare, your pet will be lavished with individual attention, walks, play sessions, and socialization with other pets.  During nap times, each dog is housed in a spacious 5' x 10' kennel.  Non-destructive dogs will also be provided with their own size appropriate cot, complete with a pillow.  Cats can relax in their own triple decker suite.  The Ruffin' Around staff will be happy to feed your pet a lunchtime meal; however, we require you to provide us with your pet's own diet to avoid stomach upset.
At the end of every stay, our goal is to return a tired, content pet to you, the exhausted owner.

Who benefits from daycare?

Both pets and their owners benefit from daycare.  Pet owners will have peace-of-mind knowing their pet is being pampered while they are away from home.  Owners will also feel at ease knowing that their pet is not at home destroying the house because he is bored or anxious.  Many pets suffer from separation anxiety or depression when their owners leave them alone.  These pets do well with the extra attention that daycare provides.
Obese and energetic pets benefit from the additional physical activity that they receive from daycare.  Owners of overweight pets will notice them magically shedding those extra pounds.  Owners of energetic pets will be pleasantly surprised when their dog or cat is just as tired as they are at the end of a busy day.
In addition, daycare assists in the house training of puppies by enabling frequent bathroom breaks throughout the day which may otherwise be impossible due to long hours at work or other obligations.
Finally, daycare allows your pet to socialize with others.  Socialization is important if you ever plan to add another pet to your household, or if you ever plan to take your pet outside of the home where he may encounter other pets or people.  Examples of places where it would be a good idea to have a well-socialized pet are: walking down the street, at the park, at the pet store, at the vet's office, at the kennel, at the groomer, on pet-friendly vacations, and of course, at daycare.
Whether you bring your pet to daycare every day or just a few days per week, the variety daycare adds to your pet's life will result in a happier, healthier pet.

How can my pet participate in daycare?

To ensure the health and well-being of all of our daycare participants, there are certain requirements for participation.  Before your pet begins daycare, you must first provide us with some background information about your pet as well as documentation from your vet of your pet's vaccination status.  All pets attending daycare must have a pleasant disposition and be in good health.  Pets exhibiting any of the following symptoms: coughing, sneezing, discharge from the eyes or nose, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and/or loss of appetite, should be kept at home until seen by a veterinarian and declared non-infectious.
Both dogs and cats must have a current rabies vaccination.  In addition, dogs attending daycare must have a stool sample checked annually for parasites and be vaccinated against distemper/parvo and kennel cough.  All cats must test negative for FeLV and FIV and remain up-to-date on the upper respiratory vaccine.  Puppies and kittens must be at least 12 weeks old, and have received at least two vaccine boosters, to attend.  All daycare participants over 6 months of age must be spayed or neutered.  Flea prevention is required.  Heartworm preventative is highly recommended for all pets attending daycare because it also protects your pet from intestinal parasites.  Any newly adopted pet or pet that has recently stayed overnight at a kennel must wait 2 weeks before attending daycare.
Finally, spaces are limited so call for your reservation today.  Reservations as well as cancellations require 24 hour advance notice.
